Volunteer Development

Accountability & Feedback for Volunteers

Description
Accountability & Feedback for Volunteers

Course Overview

Volunteers play a critical role in helping NGOs deliver programmes, support communities, and advance mission-driven goals. However, effective volunteer engagement requires more than goodwill and enthusiasm. Clear accountability systems, constructive feedback practices, and supportive supervision are essential for maintaining programme quality, safeguarding communities, strengthening team collaboration, and ensuring volunteers feel valued and supported in their roles.

This course introduces NGO professionals and volunteers to the principles and practical tools of accountability and feedback within nonprofit and humanitarian environments. Participants will explore how accountability supports trust, professionalism, ethical conduct, and operational effectiveness while learning how feedback can improve performance, motivation, communication, and volunteer retention.

Designed for volunteer coordinators, NGO managers, team leaders, programme staff, and volunteers themselves, the course provides practical guidance on setting expectations, monitoring responsibilities, handling difficult conversations, recognizing volunteer contributions, and building a positive culture of continuous improvement. Through realistic NGO scenarios and practical examples, participants will gain the confidence to both give and receive feedback in respectful, constructive, and culturally sensitive ways.

The course also emphasizes that accountability in NGO work is not about punishment or control, but about shared responsibility, learning, transparency, and commitment to organizational values and community impact.
